Customers rarely say “I trust this company” out loud. They show it by finishing the form, sharing the detail, or coming back next month. That confidence is built, or lost, in small moments.

Say what happens next

Uncertainty erodes confidence. Before every important step, tell people what will happen, how long it will take, and whether they can change their mind.

Ask only for what you need

Every extra field is a small request for trust. Remove anything you cannot justify, and explain why you need what remains.

Make errors forgiving

Clear, specific, and polite error messages keep people moving. Blaming the user, even subtly, sends them elsewhere.

Be consistent everywhere

Consistent language, layout, and tone signal an organisation that has its house in order. Inconsistency suggests the opposite.

  • Use plain language over internal terms.
  • Show progress through longer journeys.
  • Confirm important actions with a clear summary.

None of these ideas is dramatic. Together, they are the difference between a journey people tolerate and one they recommend.
